From Idea

In the fall of 2004 Doug Taylor learned about podcasting from Adam Curry. Intrigued by this new technology and encouraged by what it could mean for the world, Doug began to sketch a design of what would later become PodcastPeople.com. It was also that year that Doug reached out to Matthew Bischoff, son of a neighborhood friend. Matt was the first teenager to create a podcast in the world and seemed like a great person to have on the team.

 To Construction

Throughout 2005, Doug and Matt where making tremendous progress with overall design, wire framing, and business model development. It was time to hire a development team to begin construction of the new platform that would allow anyone with a computer and a connection to the Internet to record and distribute a podcast in under 5 minutes to a worldwide audience. That may not seem like a big deal in 2017 but in 2005 it took an experienced hacker 2-3 weeks to accomplish the same thing that our software would do in under 5 minutes.

2006

Modified Media is Incorporated on September 25, 2006. The first product created is a podcasting platform capable of distributing audio, video, images and text. The original business model centered around creating a series of podcasts in-house that covered a wide variety of interests. These shows would be produced under The PodcastPeople Network moniker. The first 6 podcasts enter full production mode. The shows were LifeSpa with Dr. Marla Cohen, Wingman with Bernie Emery, Guidance For Growth with Dan Goldberg, Emotional Fitness Radio with Dr. Leon Rosenberg and Dr. Buzz Mingin, SquadRoom with Mark DeFranciso and PhotoPodcast with Phil Kramer.

2007

PodcastPeople.com is Introduced To The World

Apple executives learn of PodcastPeople through one of their employees and invite the Modified Media team to make their official announcement and platform launch at its new retail store in Christiana, Delaware on February 19th, 2007.

Just one month after launch in March of 2007, PodcastPeople is featured on Attack Of The Show which results in thousands of signups within minutes of airing. Unable to handle the massive throughput of data, audio, and video transcoding, PodcastPeople’s servers crashed for several hours.

PodcastPeople’s adoption rate is beginning to show the proverbial hockey stick growth!

2008

Competing in Less than Ideal Conditions

September 29, 2008, exactly 18 months and 10 days since PodcastPeople was launched, the stock market crashed in the U.S. The Dow fell 777.68 points, the most in any single day in history. Global markets panicked as well. And so did PodcastPeople’s competitors. When the dust settled less than half of PodcastPeople’s competitors remained open for business. That number would drop significantly in the following years. The fight is very real.

2010

The Trough of Disillusionment

As the economy slowly begins to pick up steam, so does PodcastPeople’s subscribers. Even though the company is seeing minor growth, It’s still a long haul with seemingly no end in sight. Despite the gloomy outlook, the Modified Media team is dedicated and remains undeterred in its mission.

2011

The Entire Team is Tested

Just as the company is rising from the ashes of the 2008 crash, Modified Media’s founder and Chief Executive, Doug Taylor is critically injured in an automobile/pedestrian accident on the West Coast. The small but dedicated team rallies around its CEO and holds the fort down for more than 6 months while Doug provides high level support from the ICU. Matthew Orenshaw is largely credited for “keeping things going” until Doug was able to return to the office full time.

2012

Turning Point

Modified Media CEO, Doug Taylor is back full time and hires Dr. Bin Le to the post of Chief Technology Officer. It is in this role that Dr. Le would provide critical coding and business analysis to keep the company moving towards profitability.

2013

Digified is Born

As Modified Media receives more and more requests from it’s current and potential clients to provide secure publishing options, the team updates PodcastPeople.com with two premium accounts with 3 layers of secure authentication. The team also goes to work establishing a new, totally secure cloud based platform known as Digified.

2014

Perseverance Pays

Modified Media achieves its first year of profitability with it’s podcasting platform PodcastPeople.com. The company also signs it’s first Federal Government contract with the United States Postal Inspection Service.

2017
